No office visits needed: EPFO’s new portal offers 8 essential PF services online

  • August 26, 2026

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has rolled out a revamped portal that brings several member services under a single digital dashboard, reducing the need for subscribers to visit EPFO offices or depend on employers for routine account-related tasks.

The new platform enables members to complete a range of provident fund activities online, including activating their Universal Account Number (UAN), filing claims, updating KYC information, checking passbooks and managing nominations. The move is part of EPFO’s broader effort to simplify access to retirement savings services through a unified digital interface.

Single platform for member services

The updated portal allows EPF subscribers to access services through a computer or mobile device. Many of the functions previously spread across different interfaces are now available from a central dashboard.

According to EPFO’s member services framework, access to most online services begins with activation of the member’s Universal Account Number (UAN), which serves as the primary digital identity for EPF subscribers.

Eight key services available online

Members can now complete the following services digitally:

  • UAN activation through Aadhaar-based OTP authentication.
  • Retrieval of UAN details using personal information without employer intervention.
  • Online PF withdrawals, including final settlement, pension withdrawal benefits and partial withdrawals.
  • Passbook viewing and download for tracking contributions and balances.
  • Filing and updating e-nominations.
  • Updating KYC information, including Aadhaar, PAN and bank account details.
  • Online transfer of PF accounts when changing employers.
  • Death claim filing by nominees or family members through dedicated claim facilities.

The services are designed to reduce paperwork and speed up access to provident fund-related transactions.

UAN activation remains the starting point

EPFO has stated that members must activate their UAN before accessing most online services.

Under the process outlined by the organisation, users need to enter their UAN, Aadhaar number, name, date of birth and Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Authentication is completed through a one-time password sent to the registered mobile number.

EPFO has also indicated that existing UAN activation and new UAN generation can be completed through the UMANG application.

For members who do not know their UAN, the portal provides a “Know Your UAN” facility. Additional options allow eligible users to self-generate a UAN without requiring an employer request.

Digital claims process expands

One of the most significant changes is the ability to submit multiple claim types directly through the member interface.

EPFO’s FAQs state that members can apply online for:

  • Form 19 for PF final settlement.
  • Form 10-C for pension withdrawal benefits.
  • Form 31 for partial PF withdrawals or advances.

For final settlement claims, the member’s joining and exit dates must be available in the EPFO database, and the claim can be submitted only after the prescribed waiting period following employment cessation.

For Form 31 claims, EPFO states that supporting documents are not required and the online application itself is treated as a self-declaration. Claims are authenticated using Aadhaar-linked OTP verification.

Passbook, nominations and KYC updates move online

The portal also allows members to view and download their EPF passbooks digitally.

EPFO has separately informed members that it recently completed a major database consolidation and software upgrade aimed at improving service delivery. During the initial phase following the upgrade, claims and service requests may undergo additional verification and validation checks.

The platform further enables members to:

  • File and update e-nominations.
  • Update Aadhaar, PAN and bank account details.
  • Maintain records required for smoother claim processing.

EPFO has stated that filing nominations is mandatory under the EPF Scheme, 2026, allowing nominees and family members to access provident fund, pension and insurance benefits in the event of a member’s death.

Support for job changes and family claims

The new portal also simplifies account transfers for employees switching jobs.

Members can submit online transfer requests to move their provident fund balances between employers without visiting an EPFO office.

In addition, dedicated facilities have been introduced for death claim filing by nominees and family members, covering both provident fund and pension-related claims. These services are available subject to nomination and KYC requirements being completed.

What members need before using the services

Most online services require members to have:

  • An activated UAN.
  • Aadhaar linked with EPFO records.
  • Aadhaar-linked mobile number for OTP authentication.
  • Bank account details with IFSC code seeded in EPFO records.
  • PAN details, particularly for certain final settlement claims where applicable.

The launch of the consolidated portal marks another step in EPFO’s digital transformation efforts. By bringing core provident fund services into a single online interface, the organisation aims to reduce administrative hurdles and improve access for millions of EPF subscribers across India.
