Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Katie Hill has confirmed Sarah Sugden’s future amid the dark Dr Todd storyline. The character recently fatally pushed the evil doctor during an argument at Charity’s home.

Sarah and grandmother Charity are currently trying to conceal the truth from everyone, with the latter taking the blame to keep her granddaughter out of jail.

Katie has now revealed that Sarah is set to stay put in the Dales and won’t go to prison amid the story.

Sharing her “speechless” reaction to first finding out about the initial plot, she recalled: “I was like, ‘right, okay.’ And then I kind of thought, ‘do I go to prison?’ to which [Emmerdale producer Sophie Roper] immediately sort of said, ‘don’t worry, you don’t go to prison’. I was like, ‘okay and breathe, still got a job!’

“No, I was just honoured to be, trusted with the storyline,” Katie added. “This is the biggest storyline I’ve had and it’s like Sophie said, transitioning Sarah from being this innocent, happy young mum with Jacob to then this massive moment in her life that will change her forever. So yeah, just so excited and grateful to have been given the storyline.”

The star also shared how the secret will affect Sarah’s relationship with an unaware Jacob, teasing: “At the start you definitely see that it affects their relationship because Sarah’s just shutting off completely.

“She doesn’t want to talk to him, so she’s just being avoidant and obviously Jacob doesn’t know what’s going on so he’s sort of thinking, ‘am I doing anything wrong?’ So yeah, we’ll see them have a little bit of a rocky period.”

She added that Sarah puts down her odd behaviour “down to trauma of seeing someone die” and “that’s what she keeps saying to him”.

Roper recently confirmed that justice will work its way towards Sarah, telling Digital Spy: “Through the course of this story, you see the consequences of what Sarah has done – and we’ll look at that from a legal standpoint.

“We’ll also look at that from how Sarah will view herself, how she struggles to confront that trauma and how she struggles to deal with that.”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
