Apple TV’s Silo just aired arguably its best episode to date. Mathematically, in fact, if we’re going by IMDB scores. It’s a little hard to believe there’s still a finale to come next Friday, but even ahead of that, we have news about season 4 and its likely release date.
Nearly half a year before season 3 aired, Apple TV announced that Silo season 4 had already finished filming. It’s impressive enough for a show to even be renewed before a new season airs, but to finish filming that early? That’s blindingly fast. And now, that should produce a release date that satisfies audiences. Here’s what we know from the data:
- Silo season 3 finished filming in May 2025, before it aired in July 2026, 14 months later.
- If Silo season 4 finished filming in March 2026, then 14 months later would be May 2027, which is just eight months from now. It would be 10 months after season 3 began airing in July 2026.
A 10-month gap would be radically reduced from the 16- and 17-month gaps between the previous three seasons. The reason is, of course, that none of those seasons started filming that many months before the next one even aired. If you recognize this pattern, it’s something another Apple TV show does: Slow Horses, which is sometimes practically two seasons ahead in filming. In Silo’s case, Apple has said that it’s likely to be a summer 2027 release for season 4, though that could mean June, just one more month past this estimate.
Silo season 4 is the last one, however, and it was clear from the start that Apple wanted to finish adapting the entire original book series. The spacing is more impressive when you remember that these are full 10-episode seasons, hardly all that common in streaming today, plus this is definitely a show that requires intensive filming and a lot of VFX in some instances.
If Silo season 4 doesn’t arrive 10-11 months after season 3 and is pushed to a year or more instead, the likely reason is just Apple TV’s show scheduling. Apple, like most services, layers its shows purposefully so one ends and another begins, or has already just begun. In this case, with Silo wrapping up the same day as episode 9, we had the release of season 2, episode 1 of Dark Matter, another high-concept sci-fi series (Though one that has taken over two years to arrive since season 1).
This season of Silo started somewhat unsteadily, with a memory loss storyline causing the characters to be far behind the audience’s knowledge. Over time it got better and better, culminating in episode 9, which does feel like the best of the series so far. We’ll see if the season finale can top it, and if season 4 will be a worthy end for the series.
