A young child remains critically ill in hospital following an attack in a house in Dungannon in Co Tyrone in which a man was killed.
A teenage boy arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder remains in police custody.
Police and paramedics rushed to a house on Lisnahull Road in the town shortly after 11am yesterday after a neighbour reported hearing a woman screaming for help.
A man who had sustained serious injuries was declared dead at the scene.
A young child was rushed to hospital in Belfast to be treated for serious injuries and remains in a critical condition.
A woman treated for non-life threatening injuries has been released from hospital.
The PSNI said detectives from its Major Investigation Team are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Detective Chief Inspector Robinson said: “The cause of the man’s death has not yet been formally established and post-mortem examinations will take place in due course.
“A male, who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, remains in custody.
“As such, it would be inappropriate to comment further and I would ask that the public avoid speculation until we can provide further updates.
“However, I want to reassure the public that we do not believe that there is any ongoing risk, and at this stage we are not seeking anyone else in relation to the death.
“Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of those involved.”
