Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris will meet with G20 finance ministers in the US today as part of Ireland’s ongoing EU presidency role.
The two-day trip in North Carolina will include meetings with the new British chancellor of the exchequer John Healey and Canada’s finance minister François-Philippe Champagne.
The event sees finance ministers and Central Bank governors from the G20 nations meet to discuss the global economy, with additional interest this week on individual countries’ energy security and financial stability.
As part of Ireland’s EU presidency role, Minister Harris is attending alongside European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde and EU Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis.
Meanwhile, further EU presidency meetings will take place in Ireland this week involving defence and foreign ministers from EU member states.
This evening, defence ministers from 17 EU member states will arrive in Ireland for an informal summit chaired by Ireland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence Helen McEntee.
That visit will include a day-long meeting in Wicklow tomorrow during which Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine, EU security and other matters will be discussed.
On Wednesday, EU member states’ foreign ministers will also meet in Ireland to discuss issues including transatlantic relations and the Middle East.
