Nepal is seeing a tough time following the floods and mudslides disaster, and during this hard moment, a user thanked Huawei Consumer Business Group Unit Chairman Richard Yu for introducing mobile phone satellite features that helped him in the rescue.
Richard recently shared a video on Weibo previewing the Mate XT 2 tri-fold’s appearance. In the comments section of this post, a user recounted his Nepal experience.
The user mentioned how he used the satellite features of a Huawei foldable phone in the Nepal disaster and survived the incident without any major troubles.
As per the user, he turned on Huawei satellite communication text messaging feature in the absence of internet. The feature immediately connected him with the outside world, where he successfully contacted a helicopter to shift him to a safe area on time.
Revealing the device’s name, the Weibo username hinted that the user has a Huawei Mate X5 Collector’s Edition. The user thanked Huawei, saying that the disastrous moment was when he realized how truly life-saving satellite communication can be.
“I personally experienced the 8.26 Nepal flood and mudslide disaster. I am especially grateful for the satellite communication and SMS feature of my Huawei mobile phone. […] I only realized after the disaster that satellite communication could save lives.”

Huawei launched satellite communication in 2022 with the Mate 50 series. Over the years, the company continued enhancing it with new upgrades and improvements. From text messaging to two-way calling and image sending capabilities, the company has come a long way in satellite communication.
Now the Mate 90 series is on its way. It would be interesting to see what new changes it brings to satellite connectivity.
