Glen Powell puts the prosthetics back on to turn himself into the college-football phenom Chad Powers for a second season of the sports comedy. Powell plays the former star quarterback Russ Holliday, whose career has imploded following a disastrous on-pitch error. With his name now dirt, Russ decides to don a disguise to get back in the game as Chad, a good ol’ southern boy, and leading the struggling South Georgia Catfish team to glory. But can he keep the Chad deception going? With his off-the-field behaviour raising increased suspicion, it can’t be long before Coach Hudson (Steve Zahn) learns the truth about his star player.

It had to happen sooner or later: Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond, the creators of Prime Video’s popular petrolhead series, have finally run out of road. For this latest series of The Grand Tour they’re handing the ignition keys to a new generation of car enthusiasts: the YouTube stars James Engelsman and Thomas Holland, creators of the acclaimed Throttle House, and the social media trainspotter Francis Bourgeois. Will they be able to recreate their predecessors’ laddish chemistry as they tackle the Angolan desert, delve into Malaysia’s souped-up car culture and put performance cars through their paces in California? Expect them to be buzzed by fighter jets, harassed by jackals and have some near-death experiences.

Sixteen-year-old Teagan is a talented rower with a bright future in the sport, but when her family is caught up in a scandal her prospects of becoming a champion sculler are scuttled. To get out of the heat, the family moves to the east coast, where Teagan is enrolled at an elite prep school. When she discovers that it doesn’t have a girls’ crew, there’s nothing for it but to elbow her way on to the boys’ team, signing up as coxswain, but she’s not home and dry yet. The boys’ varsity crew is in chaos and needs some serious work to steady the ship. Soon the sparks are flying between Teagan and two of the team’s hunks – arrogant captain Josh and star rower Cam. Parental warning: there may be snogging.

The acclaimed espionage drama returns for a sixth season, and Jackson Lamb, Gary Oldman’s slovenly spymaster, still hasn’t bothered to darn his socks – or perhaps even wash them. At Slough House, MI5’s dumping ground for agents who have screwed up their assignments, his Slow Horses find themselves being targeted. Lamb and his team will have to find a safe house and find out who’s behind the attacks. Kristin Scott Thomas returns as MI5 director general Diana Taverner, with Jack Lowden back as agent River Cartwright. Saskia Reeves, Jonathan Pryce, Hugo Weaving and Olivia Cooke also star.

Fans of Jack Reacher will know Frances Neagley as the resourceful private investigator who has helped him crack many a case. A former protege of Reacher’s in a US army special-investigations unit, Neagley has some very specific skills, and while she may lack the lumbering brawn of her mentor, she has no shortage of brains and tech savvy to burn. This Reacher spin-off series starring Maria Sten begins right after the fourth series of Reacher ends. The big guy himself, played by Alan Ritchson, will be making a few guest appearances. (You’ll spot him easily: he’ll completely block out everything else on screen.) Mostly, though, Neagley will have to fend for herself as she investigates the murder of an old friend.

The Harrigan crime family are back for more mayhem in the second season of Guy Ritchie’s explosive series, but are their fortunes about to take a downturn? Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren return as Conrad and Maeve Harrigan, the ruthless bosses of London’s most powerful criminal clan, with Tom Hardy as their fixer Harry de Souza. He has some bad news for Conrad and Maeve: their enemies are getting more powerful and more ambitious, and their empire could soon crumble around their greying temples. The only thing for it is to hit back hard, but it’s not long before Harry’s loyalty to the Harrigans is sorely tested. Joining the carnage for this new season are Paddy Considine, Emmett J Scanlan, Johnny Flynn, Janet McTeer and Toby Jones.

When Matthew’s mom lets slip that the two may actually be brothers, they face an identity crisis that upends their lives and forces them to reassess who they really are. To add to the confusion, the pair are two of Hollywood’s most recognisable faces, Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, playing fictionalised versions of themselves. The show was inspired by the real-life rumour that the two A-listers were actually brothers.

Are you ready for a Spanish Sherlock Holmes? Based on a bestselling novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, this new series is set on a small island off Mallorca. The year is 1959, and 13 people are holidaying at a secluded hotel on the island – among them a retired actor, Basil, whose most famous role was playing Sherlock Holmes on the big screen. When, after a big storm that makes travel to or from the island impossible, an English tourist is found dead, the task of solving the crime falls to Basil. He’s going to have to seriously get in character if he’s to expose the killer. But the murder soon proves more complex than Basil could have imagined. You may need to be fast at reading subtitles if you’re going to follow this twisty plot.
American Horror Story: 13 From Friday, September 25th, Disney+
Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s Emmy-winning anthology series is back for a 13th series, and boy is Disney+ going to milk the number 13 for all its worth. The latest season features 13 episodes, with the finale scheduled for October 30th, just in time to get everyone’s nerves frazzled for Halloween. The series will also bring back some of the most popular characters from previous series, including Constance Langdon, Cordelia Goode, Madison Montgomery, Rubber Man and Twisty the Clown, and a big scary surprise is promised somewhere along the way. The all-star casts includes Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Jessica Lange and Mena Suvari.
