Jim Thornton, the long-time announcer for “Wheel of Fortune,” has been suspended from the show.
Sony Pictures Television Studios said in a statement to TMZ, “We have recently been made aware of allegations concerning Jim Thornton. He has been suspended from Wheel of Fortune and we are recasting while we conduct a thorough investigation.”
The studio did not elaborate on the nature of the allegations, but TMZ reports there was an alleged incident with Thornton on a commercial flight in May in which a passenger complained to a flight attendant about him.
According to the outlet, law enforcement was called to meet Thornton when they arrived at the gate and he was questioned but later released.
“On May 14, American Airlines Flight 1276 was met by law enforcement upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport following concerns reported by a customer onboard,” the airline told TMZ.
Thornton has been with “Wheel of Fortune” since 2011 following the death of the previous long-running announcer, Charlie O’Donnell who was with the show from 1975 to 1980 and 1989 to 2010.
The announcer has also worked on series like “The Price is Right,” “The Soup,” and “Celebrity Deathmatch,” and films like “Monsters Inc.”
