Modesto native George Lucas goes big — 11 acres big — at his soon-to-open museum in Los Angeles.
The feature on the large space is a 300,000-square-foot state-of-the-art building with a library and galleries “where you can see everything from works by Frida Kahlo and Banksy to the film archives of George Lucas himself,” according to an online story by nbclosangeles.com.
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is schedule to open Sept. 22, but tickets for day one and several other early dates already have sold out, a Los Angeles Daily News story reports.

Founded by the iconic filmmaker and Downey High graduate, and his wife, Mellody Hobson, the museum is “devoted to the art of storytelling through images, including Lucas’ vast personal collection amassed over 50 years,” the LA Daily News story said.
The galleries include classic and modern comics, children’s stories, fantasy, history, community, art and artists, it reports. “The Lucas Archives include extensive collections of materials from the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies.”
But patrons should not expect just “Star Wars” and other Lucas projects.
“We’re really excited about our Star Wars in Motion exhibit, which I know many people will be. But it really is just one gallery of 30 galleries in the entire museum,” Tracey Bates, CEO of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, said in the nbclosangeles.com story. “So you will see everything from graphic novels to comics to photography, Frank Frazetta to fantasy illustration to so many things.”
Outside, the museum will be surrounded by public parks and gardens.
