Works on an eagerly awaited development project designed to transform a bridge located in the West of the county is set to get underway.
Councillor Brian Carr has confirmed that the tender for the €100,000 project on the Curreen Bridge in Fintown has now been issued.
It was a red line issue for Carr during his election to the Donegal County Council in 2024.
Since his election, Carr has been campaigning hard to make sure that works on the project commence as soon as possible.
He confirmed that the contract is now out to tender via his Facebook page.
“I’m absolutely delighted to see the €100,000 funding granted for the Curreen Bridge in 2026 is going to start. Ground investigations are now moving to the next stage, with the contract advertised on eTenders.
“So, in simple terms, work is about to start, and holes are going to be dug,” said Carr.
Carr jokingly said that he will continue his habit of bringing up the topic of the Curreen Bridge at every meeting, but is looking forward to providing updates on the project.

Carr also shared the wording from the tender that has been put out for this job.
The purpose of this contract is to conduct the detailed ground investigation to progress the detailed design of the scheme.
The GI will extend over the entire length of the proposed road development.
Ground Investigation points will be carried out in the areas of the existing and new road construction with a number of trial pits to be carried out in green field sites.
The objective of the ground investigation is to ascertain the ground and groundwater conditions that will be encountered along the route of the R250 – Droichead an Churraoin Road Realignment and to investigate anomalies which may be identified during the investigation.
