Mate 90 RS Ultimate will be the high-end Huawei smartphone model, which is expected to bring back a ceramic rear panel. A new leak says the company will once again use a ceramic material to craft the flagship Ultimate Design.
SuperDimensional on Weibo reported that Huawei will bring back a ceramic design with the Mate 90 RS Ultimate phone this year. If true, it would be a big upgrade for the device in terms of the materials used to craft it.
The ceramic back is developed with a specially engineered concept. Brands use zirconia to make a ceramic back panel. Unlike glass, metal, or plastic, OEMs used to heat, press, and polish ceramic into a smooth and tough sheet for phones.
A ceramic back is much harder than standard glass. It can easily resist everyday scratches made by keys, coins, or other items. At the same time, it feels cool, smooth, and slightly heavy compared to glass or metal-based back panels.
Ceramic is generally stronger against drops and bends than glass panels. Overall, it is a better choice than other materials for a smartphone rear side.
Huawei launched the Mate 80 RS last year with a dual-glass construction. As per the official details, the company hasn’t used ceramic but a specialized glass finish treated to mimic a ceramic-like micro-engraving texture and feel on the back of the device.
But this year, the company could bring back the ceramic back panel with the Huawei Mate 90 RS Ultimate. As usual, this rear design will be exclusive to the RS variant.
The tipster also shared a sketch of the Mate 90 RS model, showing negligible changes in the camera module. It sticks to the octagonal lens frame with four imaging sensors and an LED flash. Meanwhile, the front face has a three-punch-hole design.
