Last year, Julie Andrews made Primetime Emmy history when she became the oldest woman ever to win at age 89. Now, at 90, she just extended her own record at Sunday’s Creative Arts Emmys.
Andrews prevailed both years for voicing the sharp-tongued Lady Whistledown on Bridgerton. She was also nominated for the Netflix romance drama in 2021, 2022, and 2023, losing to Maya Rudolph (Big Mouth), Chadwick Boseman (What If…?), and Rudolph, respectively.
The previous female record holders were both 88 years old: Betty White in 2010 for hosting Saturday Night Live, and Beulah Bondi in 1977 for acting in The Waltons. Norman Lear holds the Primetime Emmy record for men, winning at age 98 for Live In Front of a Studio Audience in 2020.
This year, Andrews’ co-nominees in Best Character Voice-Over Performance were Pamela Adlon (King of the Hill), Hank Azaria (The Simpsons), Trey Parker (South Park), Matt Vogel (The Muppet Show), and Steven Yeun (Invincible).
Now in Season 4, Bridgerton is a seven-time Emmy winner, with Andrews claiming two trophies and the other five being for Best Period Costumes (2025), Best Period or Fantasy/Sci-Fi Hairstyling (2025), and Best Period and/or Character Hairstyling (2026, 2022, and 2021).

The show is adapted from the books by Julia Quinn and produced by Shonda Rhimes’ company Shondaland. Season 4 follows a Cinderella-inspired romance between Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), an illegitimate earl’s daughter, and Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson), a wealthy aristocratic gentleman. Penelope Bridgerton (Nicola Coughlan) once again provides commentary via her alter ego, Lady Whistledown.
Andrews is perhaps best known for starring in Mary Poppins (1964), for which she won the Best Actress Oscar. She was also nominated at the Oscars for The Sound of Music (1965) and Victor/Victoria (1982).
The beloved English actress, singer, and author did not appear at the 2026 Emmys to accept her trophy for Bridgerton. Andrews’ last in-person appearance was in March 2023 at the taping of Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love.
