Teri Hatcher is ready to take over Runway.
The Desperate Housewives alum will step into the role of formidable fashion editor Miranda Priestly in the West End production of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical beginning Oct. 20.
Hatcher, 61, will succeed Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award nominee Vanessa Williams, who is set to give her final performance as Miranda at London’s Dominion Theatre on Sept. 19. Stage favorite Debbie Kurup will play the role in the interim, from Sept. 21 through Oct. 17.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to play some pretty formidable women throughout my career, but very few can compare to THE Miranda Priestly,” Hatcher said in a statement announcing her casting. “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining The Devil Wears Prada in the West End.”
Calling Miranda “intelligent” and “commanding,” Hatcher praised the character’s ability to put people “in your place while being funny at the same time.”
“Her dialogue is unforgettable, her confidence is contagious,” she added. “These are the kinds of roles one loves to play.”
The actress said she is especially looking forward to taking on Miranda’s “sharp wit, fierce ambition, and iconic style” and performing the role for a new audience each night.

Best known for playing Susan Mayer throughout all eight seasons of Desperate Housewives, Hatcher has previously combined her screen career with work onstage.
She made her musical-theater debut playing Sally Bowles in the national tour of Sam Mendes’ acclaimed revival of Cabaret and more recently starred as Morticia Addams in The Addams Family.
Hatcher also famously played Lois Lane opposite Dean Cain in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and appeared as Bond girl Paris Carver opposite Pierce Brosnan in 1997’s Tomorrow Never Dies.
Coincidentally, Hatcher crossed paths with Williams on Desperate Housewives when the former Miss America winner joined the ABC series in its seventh season. The two have remained friendly since, reuniting in 2022 at the opening night of POTUS on Broadway.

The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical — based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling 2003 novel and the hit 2006 film starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci — follows aspiring journalist Andy Sachs as she lands a coveted job assisting Miranda, the fearsome editor-in-chief of fashion magazine Runway.
The musical features music by Elton John, lyrics by Shaina Taub and Mark Sonnenblick and a book by Kate Wetherhead, with direction and choreography by Jerry Mitchell.

Performances began in London in 2024 after an earlier run at Theatre Royal Plymouth. The show will celebrate its 800th show on Sept. 23.
The show has yet to transfer across the pond to Broadway, though had an early developmental run in Chicago in 2022 with Tony winner Beth Leavel as Miranda.

Williams has played Miranda in the West End production since its London opening, putting her own stamp on the character immortalized onscreen by Streep.
Hatcher now becomes the latest star to slip into Miranda’s immaculate designer wardrobe — though audiences will have to wait until Oct. 20 to hear her deliver the boss’ famously cutting commands.
Her stint as Miranda is currently scheduled to continue through Feb. 6, 2027.
