A campaign group in Galway is calling on the Minister to provide full clarity on a mass fish kill which they say happened at the Ardmore Bradán Beo Teo salmon farm site in Cill Chiarán Bay.
Galway Bay Against Salmon Cages says tens of thousands of farmed salmon died at the Connemara site after three separate diseases were detected.
It’s accusing the Government of hushing the incident up – and has asked for details on how many fish died, how they died and how they were disposed of.
Chairman Billy Smyth has been speaking to Galway Talks, and says “it’s important for consumers, first of all, and for the general public, especially for the likes of inshore fishermen and all that, that are fishing those bays for shrimp, lobster and crab and oysters, whatever.”
“And they need to know what’s going on around these salmon farms. And diseases have been endemic on these farms for years and years, and we cannot get the full facts of what is happening on them,” says Billy.
