A huge thankyou to everyone who entered Farmers Weekly’s annual harvest photo competition. In what was a record year for speedy harvests, we had over 1,300 stunning images submitted to the gallery.
We crown the winning shot which features on the front cover of the 11 September issue – and our other amazing finalists.

Evening sunset
Manor Farm, Wiltshire

David White is the winner of this year’s harvest photo competition, with this scenic sunset photo of a John Deere X9 1100 working into the night gracing the front cover of this issue.
This year’s harvest in Berwick Bassett has been characterised by dust and heat and David says this is exactly what he tried to convey in the image.
“Harvest this year was very early – the earliest we have ever had. We started combining on 30 June and finished on 29 July.
“This photo was taken at sunset after another very hot day on the Marlborough Downs,” he says.
David has farmed on the family farm for nearly 60 years. His son has now taken on the running of the business. He is passionate about all things farming, wildlife and photography.
Countryside church

Coming a close second in our competition is this shot from Sophie Kitchener with her this classic snap epitomising harvest in rural Britain.
A New Holland TX68 cuts a crop of Extase winter wheat against a backdrop of the local church. Sophie farms in Whiston with her partner, three children and father-in-law.
Flower power

Agricultural engineer student Matthew Carlises was employed as a harvest worker in Gamlingay on the Cambridgeshire/Bedfordshire border this summer.
He snapped this unique image of a New Holland T7.245 AutoCommand and Kuhn SB 1290 ID baling wheat straw, with a pretty pink floristic hedgerow in the foreground and wind turbine in the background.
Lovely leverets

While carting bales in Stowmarket on a very hot day, Alan Hart spotted two baby leverets sheltering from the heat. He left the bale where it was so they could stay safe. How sweet!

While out walking his dog, 14-year old James Ellis captured this striking drone image of spring barley harvest going on in the field opposite his house in the Isle of Axholme. He was incredibly proud of the finished photograph says mum Caroline – and rightly so.
Machinery teamwork

On the last push, a fleet of machines at Rattlerow Farms, Badingham, were all working together. Josh Lewis captures the moment via drone.
The team worked out there was over 2000hp in the field!
