Speed Art Museum names Kathleen Jameson as new director
LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
The Speed Art Museum’s new director is returning to a place that helped launch her career.
Kathleen James was officially announced as the museum’s new director on Wednesday.
Jameson first came to Louisville as a graduate student at UofL and interned at the Speed.
She returns with more than three decades of experience, including leading museums in Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
Jameson takes over as the Speed prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary next year.
She said her first priority is listening to the people who know the museum the best.
“I want to understand what you value most about the Speed, where the opportunities are there for us to grow, and how we can continue strengthening our connection to Louisville and communities throughout Kentucky and the region,” Jameson said.
Jameson is the 10th director in the Speed’s history.
