David Muir interrupted Tuesday’s ABC World News Tonight for a breaking news update in the assassination of MAGA influencer Charlie Kirk – but fans have been left furious

Once again, David Muir was on hand to deliver the latest on what is going on in the world, including an update on Charlie Kirk after he was shot and killed in Utah.

Fronting Tuesday’s instalment of ABC World News Tonight, the 51-year-old addressed viewers, saying, “Good evening. It is great to have you with us here on a very busy Tuesday night. We begin tonight with the breaking developments in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.”

“Just a short time ago, the suspect, Tyler Robinson, and his first appearance in court. The suspect appearing over a video link the first time he’s been seen since his arrest,” David continued as images of Robinson flashed on screen as he appeared at the murder hearing without an attorney

“Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray signaling late today, his intent to seek the death penalty Robinson facing seven charges now, including aggravated murder, obstruction of justice and witness tampering,” the ABC star revealed.

He continued, “The county attorney sharing for the first time that suspects mother allegedly recognizing her son from the surveillance images and then going to her husband, and he agreed, and what they did next, the county attorney also revealing text messages the suspect allegedly shared with his roommate, saying the suspect disliked Charlie Kirk texting his roommate quote, ‘I had enough of his hatred.'”

David concluded, “And tonight, here the Utah County attorney on what the suspect allegedly said when asked by his family and by his roommate, ‘Why?’ Matt Gutman leading us off again Tonight, from Utah.”

Correspondent Matt then delivered the latest on the developing story. Reporting live from Utah, Matt stated, “Tonight, the man accused of gunning down conservative activist Charlie Kirk in front of hundreds of people, appearing before a judge for the first time, is now charged with seven counts, including aggravated murder.”

A clip then played of 22-year-old Robinson speaking via video call in court as the judge asked him to state his name. Matt also pointed out how prosecutors have declared they would be seeking the death penalty.

“Earlier today, county attorney Jeff Gray outlined the case against Robinson, including video and DNA evidence. DNA consistent with Robinson was found on the rifle’s trigger,” Matt continued.

The reporter then explained how the suspect’s mother recognized him from the widely shared CCTV footage and urged her son to turn himself in.

As per Matt’s report, Robinson’s parents had stated that over the past year or so, their son has became more political and speaking out on his left viewers. Robinson had also began dating a biological male who is reportedly in the process of transitioning genders.

When investigators were asked if anyone else was involved in the tragic shooting that happened last week at Utah Valley University, they said the investigation “is ongoing.”

A clip of the segment was shared to Instagram along with the caption, “The man accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been charged with a slew of offenses, including aggravated murder. The Utah County Attorney’s Office announced it will be seeking the death penalty. @mattgutmanabc has more.”

Fans were quick to dish the verdict on the update – but many were left divided. “Death is too easy,” one viewer penned, referring to the fact Robinson could be given the death penalty for his alleged actions. Another person echoed, “The death penalty makes no sense. He will be free… He needs to be in jail for the rest of his life.” A third person added, “Yeah, life in prison I say. It’s the political fault. And internets fault.”
