The Wanted singer and Strictly Come Dancing star Max George has revealed he’s back in hospital, just days before he was due to hit the road with his bandmateMax George back in hospital just days before The Wanted 2.0 tour
Max George has been hospitalised again following multiple heart surgeries. Just days before his tour was supposed to continue, The Wanted singer posted from a hospital bed.
The 37-year-old received a pacemaker in December 2024 during emergency surgery, which uncovered a heart block. The singer has been in and out of the hospital in the nine months since, and even underwent a second operation after it was revealed that his pacemaker wires were inserted too deeply.
On Thursday (18 September), he posted a picture to Instagram from a hospital bed as he waited to be seen by doctors. Max didn’t seem to be too worried, as he captioned the post with a cheeky comment suggesting he expected to still embark on his worldwide tour.

He wrote: “Tin man needed a bit of oil before tour. Next stop… USA!!!” The Wanted 2.0, which only features Max and fellow original Wanted bandmate Siva Kaneswaran, have already done a summer tour through the UK and are set to spend the next month touring North America.
Their first stop is supposed to be Orlando, Florida, but if the gig is cancelled, it would not be the first time the band have had to take such action. In February, they cancelled their concert at Manchester Cathedral, as this was when Max needed his second operation. Max confirmed the news himself on Instagram.
“My second heart op has set me back a little bit with my recovery and I’m just not going to be well enough in time. Yeah, obviously so gutted,” the singer said.
“Me and Siva are just working out now when we’re gonna do it which we 100% will. We just need to figure out a date in the near future.”
With the video, he reiterated how upset he was: “Gutted to announce that our gig in Manchester on 27th Feb has been postponed. Can’t wait to feel better and be back on stage soon! Much love always.”

Max has been very open about his recovery online. In March, he shared details of his operation, revealing the doctors had let him listen to Oasis during the procedure and told him there would be a long recovery ahead. He admitted that it could take months for the inflammation of his heart to go down. Max has also previously opened up to fans about his ears the new surgery could cause a dangerous bleed.
He told The Sun on Sunday: “I thought I was on the road to recovery but when I was told I needed a second operation I was nervous, as pulling the pacemaker wires out of the heart wall risks bleeding on the heart. I didn’t have a choice, though. I had to have it done.”
Max joked that he preferred the PJs to the hospital gown(Image: Max George Instagram)
But with the support of his bandmate, mum Barbara, and his girlfriend, Maisie Smith, whom he met on Strictly Come Dancing, Max was able to put his nerves at rest and have the procedure.
This time around, the singer seemed a lot calmer. He has posted only once to his main grid and twice to his stories – one video showing the ward he’s on and another selfie, where he’s back in his own clothes. Over the selfie, he wrote: “Think I prefer the PJs…”
