Country star Daniel O’Donnell has broken his silence on an incredible dress that bears a massive print of his face.
The ‘Daniel dress’ by Letterkenny sisters Mirren and Brodie McFeely of Cúpla designs has been seen on stage and screen and shared widely online thanks to music star CMAT.
The creative twins had been anxiously waiting to see what Daniel thought of their creation.
Thankfully, he’s delighted!
The girls received a surprise call from Daniel during an interview with Dermot Whelan on RTE Radio 1 yesterday.
“It’s amazing, I just didn’t expect to see it where it ended up,” said Daniel.
“I’m delighted for Mirren and Brodie to see what they are doing being highlighted in such a way. It’s a fantastic thing, irrespective of the fact that my face is on the dress.
“I look at it and I think God save us, how does that happen?”
The dress is part of a ‘Greetings from Donegal’ clothing collection that the McFeelys dreamt up during Mirren’s graduate residency at the Belfast School of Art.
They created the monochrome dress in an ode to Daniel, who they call the ‘King of Donegal’, and took inspiration from the Harry Gordon Bob Dylan paper dress.
The rest of the collection features a Banba’s Crown skirt, a Suckin’ Diesel tank, and a sweater inspired by The Cottage Bar. Each piece is a celebration of Donegal heritage, rooted in nostalgia but not afraid to poke fun at itself.

Singer-songwriter CMAT took a fancy to the Daniel dress when filming for ‘When A Good Man Cries’ in Letterkenny. Her ensembles were selected by stylist Katie-Ruby McLaughlin Robinson, also from Letterkenny.
Soon after, the McFeely sisters made it their mission to gift CMAT with a version of her own, which the star wore on stage at Belfast Vital in August.
Since then, CMAT has been modelling the dress at various points of promoting her new album, Euro Country.

While the photo of Daniel is credited to Alamy images, the sisters’ main goal was to secure the blessing of Daniel O’Donnell himself to produce more of the now-famous dress.
Speaking in praise of the girls’ innovation, Daniel said: “I’m sure in the future there’ll be many things you do, you won’t have to have my face on anything to get your creative ability out there.”
