Checking in to Cabü by the Lakes in Co Cavan is the perfect opportunity to switch off and relax over a few cocktails in magical surroundings
A cabin at Cabü by the Lakes in Co Cavan
I’m convinced we’ve taken a wrong turn, and it’s no doubt my fault. I am co-pilot (and navigator) as we try to make it to Cabü by the Lakes in Killykeen Forest Park, Co Cavan. I am no stranger to a rural road, and am much more comfortable on one with grass sprouting up the middle than I am on the M50, so it surprised me the most when even I was counting the route to Cabü as extremely remote.
The last 10km stretch of winding, narrow roads to Cabü is filled with sprawling homes, guesthouses and art galleries. When we do arrive, it’s a different world, and a slower pace at that too. I go to check in at the main building and am greeted by a white dog lazing on a rug by a wood-burning fire. I think, “What a lucky pup to get to relax here every day,” but learn that he’s actually lost and is just taking refuge until his owners can be found.
