Interesting comments from former European captain Paul McGinley after a tough opening day for Bryson DeChambeau. America’s most vocal player flopped on day one, with McGinley suggesting it is a gamble to send him out again in the first of the foursomes alongside Cameron Young:

“There’s no doubt he’s a fantastic player and there’s no doubt he brings a lot of energy to the team, but he is a black sheep. He is different,” said McGinley.

“And when you have somebody like that, as creative and brilliant as he is, no matter who the team is, you’ve got to work so hard. It’s not an easy fit into partnerships.

“With his personality, you’ve got to make sure he doesn’t say something in the media or say something that gets attention and divert the focus of the team.”
