In recent years, Xiaomi has waited until the spring before bringing its latest compact smartphone to global audiences alongside a new Ultra-branded flagship. To recap, the company held out until March before launching the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Ultra globally, despite introducing the former five months earlier in China. Potentially, an earlier than expected global release could be on the cards for both the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, though.
For context, Xiaomi assigned model numbers 25010PN30C, 25010PN30G and 25010PN30I to the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, which debuted in February 2025. By contrast, XiaomiTime now reports that Xiaomi is developing the Xiaomi 17 Ultra as ‘25128PNA1’. Not only that, but the website asserts that Xiaomi is prototyping with 25128PNA1G, 25128PNA1C and 2512BPNDAI models, which relate to global, Chinese and Indian variants, respectively.
Ultimately, the first four digits in a Xiaomi device’s model number often serve as a guide for when the company intends to release them, rather than as a strict rule. Nonetheless, the root of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s model number, ‘2512’, suggests that Xiaomi hopes to offer the device in some regard around December 2025 or by January 2026 at the earliest. Although this may apply to China, there is every chance this allows Xiaomi to offer the Xiaomi 17 Ultra sooner globally, too.
