While Coronation Street’s Aadi Alahan is eager to start his new life in India, his twin Asha will struggle to let him go.

Following a disastrous few months, beginning with an accidental spiking and ending in his arrest, Aadi decides he’s ready for a clean slate abroad. Despite originally rejecting his dad’s orders, the youngster finally agrees to move to India, believing his romance with Amy Barlow is unredeemable.

Next week, Steve McDonald and Mary Taylor try to play cupid between Amy and Aadi, in a bid to keep Aadi in Weatherfield. The plan almost works, but Aadi shocks Dev by admitting he’s actually looking forward to leaving.

The news surprises the Alahans, with Asha feeling especially emotional about losing her brother. As she hurries out of the Rovers, she is overwhelmed by a sudden panic attack.

Viewers will be shown the cause of the panic attack, as we witness Asha’s hellish ambulance shift from her point of view. The flashback will see the horrific day Asha has endured, including a death, an injured old lady and a racist attack on the young paramedic.

As Asha struggles to breathe in the pub garden, she is comforted by barmaid Gemma Winter-Brown who offers some words of wisdom from a fellow twin. However, Asha doesn’t return to the leaving party and is found in a delicate state by Aadi.

The pair share an emotional moment as Asha starts to open up about her stressful day but, after being interrupted by Dev, she plays down her problems and the twins head back inside.

Later, Asha records her brother a voice note, expressing how much she will miss him. She admits she will struggle in his absence and ultimately begs him not to go. After the stress and upset of her recent shift, Asha breaks down in tears. But will she send the message?

“She’s absolutely distraught about Aadi leaving, they aren’t just twins but they are also best friends – although they have a love/hate relationship,” explained Tanisha Gorey, who plays Asha. “He supports her so much and is the only person who she can really trust, so I think knowing that he is leaving is making her feel even more isolated.”

Gorey suggested Asha might turn to her ex-girlfriend Nina Lucas for support, as the pair are still “really good friends”. She added: “But I don’t think Asha will want to talk about this to anyone because she feels so alone and doesn’t want to admit that to anyone.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
