A woman who survived an alleged abduction attempt in the centre of Dublin knew her attacker, it has emerged.

Sources told The Irish Mirror that officers investigating Monday’s incident in the north inner city have established a link between the woman and suspected attacker.

It’s understood they are both Romanian. “This was certainly not random,” a source told us. “We suspect they are known to each other.”

The incident happened on Mountjoy Square at around 2.40pm and several members of the public intervened when they saw the man allegedly trying to bundle the woman into an Opel people carrier.

It’s understood the suspect then fled, but gardai are following a definite line of inquiry.

Sources also said gardai had not yet established a motive for the alleged abduction attempt. The force confirmed in a statement that an investigation was underway.

It said: “Gardaí received a report of the alleged attempted abduction of an adult female at Mountjoy Square in Dublin 1 at approximately 2:40pm on Monday 29th September 2025.

“No injuries were reported. Investigations are ongoing.”
