A sequel to Game Science’s hit 2024 video game “Black Myth: Wukong,” titled “Black Myth: Zhong Kui,” was revealed during the Opening Night Live presentation at Gamescom 2025 on Tuesday.
Per a post shared on X by China-based developer and publisher Game Science, “This single-player action role-playing game draws its primary creative inspiration from the famed Chinese folk figure ‘Zhong Kui.’”
A cinematic teaser of the game was shared during Gamescom, but, “as the project is still in early development, no in-game footage is available at this time,” Game Science noted.
In an FAQ section on its website, Game Science addressed why it has chosen to make a “Black Myth” game based on a new myth, rather than a direct sequel to “Wukong,” writing: “Thanks to the unwavering support from our players, the first ‘Black Myth’ title has landed safely. Upon completing the journey with the Destined One, we now aspire to take a tentative first step — to build more distinct game experiences, to challenge ourselves with bolder features, and to bring fresh ideas to our world and narrative design. ‘Zhong Kui’ came as a natural choice born of that aspiration and other contributing factors. We are confident that, in this new project, we can make refreshing changes, create new things, while taking a hard look at past flaws and regrets. And to all friends who love ‘Black Myth: Wukong,’ the westward journey won’t end here.”
