Olympian Derval O’Rourke relaxes in her home office after a busy few weeks. I speak to her days after she has finished presenting the World Athletic Championships on RTÉ. It was hectic: long days and late nights.

But there is a deep sense of satisfaction. She is pleased that athletics is getting the airtime it deserves. “The last RTÉ did that extensive coverage was in 1995,” the former world indoor champion sprint hurdler says. “When it comes to athletics, you can feel really defensive of it… all the sports are fighting for positions and athletics just dropped off.”
