Swiss watch manufacturer Ebel has long balanced beauty and function, from the 1911’s hexagonal case with exposed screws, first seen in 1986, to today’s clean, contemporary executions. The new 1911 Chronograph Ice Blue moves that signature language in a fresher, sport-forward direction. With this new colourway for the rather iconic chrograph, making us long for summer again, let’s take a closer look at what makes it stand out.
The stainless steel case measures 44mm in diameter and 13.65mm in thickness and features alternating brushed planes and polished bevels that catch the light around the five polished bezel screws. The sapphire crystal with an internal anti-reflective coating protects the dial, while a sapphire display caseback is also included, as expected, with 100m water-resistance.
The dial, featuring an ice-blue galvanic sunray base, delivers crisp contrast against the warm brown chronograph counters’ rings, while a clean printed minute scale and a date at 4:30 keep the layout balanced. Applied gunmetal-plated indexes and the double “E” logo echo the case finishing, and white Super-LumiNova helps legibility on the markers and on the faceted, diamond-cut gunmetal hour and minute hands. The flat, diamond-cut central chronograph seconds hand gets a red tip; the same treatment extends to the smaller chronograph counters´ hands.
The Ebel 1911 Chronograph Ice Blue is powered by the automatic Sellita SW510-1a chronograph, beating at 28,800 vibrations/hour, with approximately 48 hours of power reserve, and features a full set of functions: hours, minutes, small seconds, 12-hour chronograph, and quick-set date. It’s visible through the sapphire back without gratuitous decoration, a purposeful view that matches the watch’s sport-elegant design.
The watch is worn on a brushed and polished stainless steel bracelet, closed with a folding clasp. Alternatively, choose a black perforated calf strap with a buckle for a lighter feel. The Ebel 1911 Chronograph Ice Blue is priced at EUR 3,950.
