A 21-year-old man has died following a road traffic collision in Co Tyrone.

A woman was taken to hospital following the two vehicle crash on the Pomeroy Road in Cookstown early on Friday.

Part of road was closed for several hours following the collision between a grey Seat Leon and a grey Volkswagen Bora.

Inspector Cherith Adair, of the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit, said the report of a crash was made shortly after 6.45am.

“Our officers attended alongside emergency service partners,” Inspector Adair said.

“However the male driver of one of the vehicles was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

“A woman was also transferred to hospital for treatment for her injuries.“

The Pomeroy Road, closed at its junctions with the Drum Road and Drumnacross Road as a forensic examination was carried, re-opened late on Friday afternoon.

Inspector Adair said: “Our enquiries are continuing, and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have digital footage which could assist with our investigation, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 235 of 10/10/25.”

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said it tasked two ambulances to the scene alongside the charity air ambulance.

“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one person was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast by air ambulance,” a spokesperson said.
