Following the release of his latest book in the ‘Wild Child’ series, the Ulster naturalist talks about activism, autism and swapping rage with hope

Six people stoop over a pond in Co Down. We’re at the family home of Ulster naturalist Dara McAnulty, and a frog in the murk won’t play ball. With a splash and quick flash of leg, the little amphibian has given us the slip.
“That happens,” laments McAnulty with the first of many propulsive guffaws. “They’re very good at getting away and can hold their breath for a long time” says Paul, Dara’s scientist father and clearly a contributing source of his son’s nature-loving DNA.
