If your Wi-Fi seems sluggish lately, the problem might be lurking right beside your router. Whilst slow speeds are frequently down to your internet provider or an outdated package, the objects placed around your router could also be hampering your internet connection.

Tech specialists suggest that where you position your router can determine whether you enjoy seamless online browsing or endure endless buffering during film streaming, gaming, or remote working. Audio Technica experts have cautioned that positioning gadgets such as Bluetooth speakers too near your router could prove problematic, as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi signals may clash with one another.

Their support documentation stated: “Many Wi-Fi routers transmit on multiple channels simultaneously, and if there are excessive Wi-Fi signals in close proximity taking up most of the spectrum, your Bluetooth devices may not have any open spectrum to frequency hop to.

“This is a common cause of Bluetooth interference.

“Moving your Bluetooth devices away from Wi-Fi signals will help maximise the performance.”

Before you consider switching providers or shelling out for a faster broadband package, try moving your router to a more central and open location in your home, reports the Express.

Ideally, keep it away from the kitchen and any thick walls that could obstruct the signal.

Interestingly, it’s not just Bluetooth devices that can interfere with your Wi-Fi.

Microwaves also operate on similar frequencies and can disrupt your internet performance.

For optimal speeds, it’s advisable to position your router well away from both Bluetooth devices and your microwave.
