Several thousand people are protesting outside a centre for international protection applicants at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin.

The atmosphere is tense and angry with chants of “get them out”.

A line of gardaí is preventing the protesters getting to the centre and there are large numbers of gardaí in public order gear.

Fireworks are being directed at the garda lines.

Gardaí in public order equipment – shields and helmets – have pushed protesters back down to the gates and onto Garter Lane, which is closed to traffic.
