A landmark Killarney brewery, on the ring of Kerry, has gone on the market after the company behind the business and state-of-the building went into liquidation earlier this year.

Killarney Brewing & Distilling Company (KBD) launched in 2015, opening a taproom in Killarney and expanded in 2022, opening a brewery and visitors’ centre in Fossa, on the outskirts of the town funded with about €12m raised from investors including many in the US.

The €24m 62,000 square foot brewery, distillery and visitor centre was developed in the former Rosenbluth factory and Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism site in Killalee, Fossa.

A landmark building in the county, it has been promoted as a unique tourist attraction with its own gala dining area, roof-top terrace and brewery which targeted tour groups. It employed approximately 100 people.

Last year the company launched a plan to raise up to €7m. Companies Registration Office filings this year showed it fell well short of this target, raising about €3.5m – again mainly from US-based investors.

The company ceased trading in April leaving investors despite an examinership process the company failed to find a way forward and went into liquidation.

James Anderson, a partner at Deloitte Ireland who was appointed as interim examiner to KBD in April, is now the liquidator and is to sell the remaining assets.

This includes the iconic purpose built brewery and distillery in Fossa extending to approx. 62,000 Sqft / 5,760 Sqm according to selling agents.

The site extends to approx. 4.2 Acres / 1.7 Hectares in total on the main Ring of Kerry road.

The building also includes a fully fitted kitchen, bar and restaurant for 260 covers plus a 250 seat gala event space and additional attractions include a fully fitted visitor centre, café, gift shop and roof top terrace. Warehouses are also on site.

The sale is being handled by Tom Spillane and Co in Killarney and by Dublin based Cushman and Wakefield.
