The village of Carrigart has cleaned up at this year’s SuperValu TidyTowns awards!

Carrigart won the national Gaeltacht Award worth €1,500 and a €1,000 Gold Medal award.

The 12 member committee was commended for its intergenerational work and pride in its culture and language. Judges congratulated their biodiversity work, the beautifully maintained public spaces, the restoration of the Carrigart Hotel and the upkeep of other local properties.

The tidiest town in Donegal is Buncrana for the fourth year in a row.

Buncrana scored 398 points from the Tidy Towns judges this year – up from 383 in 2024.

Once again, there was just one point between Buncrana and Donegal’s second place prizewinning town of Letterkenny, which also won a Gold Medal. County third went to Carrigart.

Letterkenny’s overall score has grown by 16 points to 397.

Raphoe and Moville also scooped Gold Medals. Silver medals were won by Glenties and Malin this year, while Donegal Town takes home a Bronze medal.

Falcarragh received an Endeavour Award for making the biggest percentage improvement on the previous year’s score.

Carrick-on-Shannon in Leitrim was named as Ireland’s Tidiest Town for 2025 and Ireland’s Tidiest Small Town.

600 TidyTowns volunteers were present at the SuperValu TidyTowns awards ceremony at Croke Park in Dublin with the event livestreamed to many more online.

This year 929 towns were competing for the prestigious awards demonstrating the continuing huge national interest in the SuperValu TidyTowns competition, which has been running since 1958. This is the highest number of entries ever received in the competition’s history.

The SuperValu TidyTowns competition is organised by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht and sponsored by SuperValu who have sponsored the competition since 1991.

Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD also announced a special allocation of €1.5 million in funding to support the work of TidyTowns groups in their continued efforts to make their towns and villages better places to live, work and visit.
