In this postcard-pretty Wicklow village, locals are stepping up to fill the gaps — proving that while shops may close and pubs change, community endures

Ian Boucher of OhSo cafe,in Enniskerry.
When the owner of the cafe in the heart of Enniskerry village opened seven years ago, he probably didn’t foresee that a day would come when he would have to stock milk, eggs, rashers, sausages and even newspapers alongside his dainty little Portuguese tarts and gourmet rolls.
He had taken over the premises after a sorrowful end to the story of Magpie Books, whose cosy bookstore had that endearing pop-up charm about it, but struggled to find enough readers. In January 2018, the keys were handed over to Ian Boucher to allow him write the next chapter of the prime vacant unit opposite the village clock.
