Gardaí are investigating fatal road traffic collisions in Co Kildare and Co Carlow on Saturday following which two pedestrians died.

The collision in Co Kildare occurred on the N7 motorway eastbound at Kill between junctions eight and seven at about 3.30pm.

A male pedestrian in his 30s was seriously injured and taken to Tallaght University Hospital. He later died. A postmortem will take place in due course.

The bus driver was uninjured and two passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The N7 between junctions eight and seven eastbound was closed pending technical examination of the scene by Garda forensic collision investigators. The road will remain closed overnight and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are also investigating a fatal collision that occurred on the R703 in Ballyroughan Big, Borris, Co Carlow, on Saturday at 4.30pm, in which a car struck a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner has been notified and a postmortem examination will take place in due course.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 60s, was uninjured.

The road remains closed overnight, preserved pending a technical examination. Traffic diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collisions to contact them. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
