Chloë McPolin finds her inner Power Ranger (sadly, not the pink one) as she battles zombies at Sandbox VR on Dublin’s Nassau Street

Hobby comrades, this week on my quest to find a hobby I decided to venture back indoors. Lately, everyone seems to be talking about virtual reality (VR) – the supposed next big thing in gaming. I’d always imagined VR as more of a stag-do activity than a hobby, but apparently I was mistaken. It turns out VR is being hailed as the future of gaming itself. To the uninitiated, VR makes players feel like they are inside the game rather than just watching it on a screen.
To be frank, I have never been much of a gamer. Part of me always thought it was a bit of a nerdy hobby. As a child I was glued to my Nintendo DS and Wii, but beyond that it was never really something I kept up. Nonetheless, I want to embrace what this ‘new era’ of gaming has in store. A pal of mine tells me that Sandbox VR on Nassau Street is the place to go. I arrange to come on a Saturday and see what this futuristic malarkey is all about.
