The Scottish star reveals how she sang in front of MacGowan the only time they met and how her overactive imagination finds its way into some of the songs on her new album

Singer Iona Zajac talks about taking to the stage with the Pogues in place of Shane MacGowan

It was one of many ‘pinch-me’ moments that Iona Zajac has experienced over the past year. The setting was Dublin’s 3Arena, a week before last Christmas, and the Edinburgh singer was lustily singing a song that’s most associated with Shane MacGowan and with backing from a super-sized iteration of the Pogues.

Although she is adamant that she wasn’t replacing MacGowan – who could? she reasons – Zajac performed as though her life depended on it. And she loved every moment.
