Four Cork National Lottery players are celebrating wins this weekend after buying tickets or scratch cards in Midleton, Hollyhill, and the city centre.
A Cork man walked away with the largest cheque of the week, after winning €1m on the Lotto Plus 1 draw on Saturday, November 1, with a ticket purchased at Tesco, Market Green Shopping Centre, Midleton.
After reading in the local paper that a big win had yet to be claimed in Midleton, he checked his ticket and realised he had won €1m, but kept the news to himself for the rest of the day.
“I didn’t tell anyone, not even my wife, and went to work as normal, although my head was absolutely scrambled. I knew I had to contact the National Lottery before heading home, just to be sure.”
Later that evening, he shared the news: “The newspaper was left on the dinner table, so I asked them what they would do if they won the prize money. When I told them I had the winning ticket, it was madness.”
He plans to celebrate with a family trip to Disneyland Paris and a home renovation project.
Two siblings from Cork, who have been in a syndicate together for many years, also claimed a Lotto Match 5 plus Bonus prize of €292,572 after purchasing a winning ticket at Costcutter on Bridge St in Cork. One of the siblings is looking forward to doing some home improvements, while the other has their sights set on a brand new kitchen.
A Cork woman also won €50,000, the top prize amount on a €5 Merry Money scratch card after purchasing the winning card in Applegreen, Hollyhill, on Harbour View Rd.
“We are going to treat ourselves, the plan is a new car for my husband and a designer pair of heels and handbag for me — it really is the perfect excuse to enjoy a little luxury,” she said.
“We are absolutely over the moon with the win, and can’t quite believe it. You never expect something like this to happen.”
