The average age for Irish people to have a heart attack is 63, while a stroke is 72, a Department of Health report has shown. For a diagnosis of cancer, it is late 60s, and a hip fracture is 81.
The health picture has emerged in the department’s blueprint to transform healthcare for older adults, launched this week by Minister of State for Older People and Housing Kieran O’ Donnell.
