The Gentlemen star Joely Richardson has teased a “special” change for the Netflix show during its second season. With the crime drama set to return to the streamer next year, what new feature could be in store?

The actor, who plays Sabrina Horniman aka The Duchess of Halstead in Guy Ritchie’s action-comedy series, sat down with Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley on This Morning to spill the beans on the new instalment.

While the star remained tight-lipped about specific plot details, she confirmed that the second season will have a bigger scope compared to its predecessor, with the characters leaving England for sunny Italy.

“I can say it’s bigger. It’s better,” Richardson teased. “The characters are more extreme, if it’s possible. From Theo James, Kaia Scodelario, Vinnie Jones, obviously, who I play opposite. It’s just Guy Ritchie, he’s just gone large.”

“We travel so it’s not just in England. I think I can say this. We go to Italy, which was a bit special,” added the actor, who also spoke about Hugh Bonneville’s impending introduction to the series.

“He’s such a brilliant actor that you could give him the line, ‘This is a coffee table,’ and he would make it funny,” she said of her co-star. “I was watching him yesterday because I was at work there and I just thought, ‘Oh god.’ You know, some people are just a bit too good.”

The Gentlemen, a spin-off to Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name, follows the Duke of Halstead Eddie Horniman (James) as he’s embroiled in a criminal cannabis empire with his late father’s partner, Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone), and his daughter, Susie (Scodelario).

The series, which is also produced by Ritchie, has proved to be a hit with viewers if its user rating on IMDb is anything to go by, with the score of 8.0 out of 10 from 172,000 being mightily impressive.

“True to form, the series delivered a plethora of dynamic characters, accompanied by snappy, witty dialogue and intricately woven plot points. It epitomizes the quintessential Guy Ritchie style,” opined one viewer as they called it “gritty”.

These sentiments were echoed by another fan, who wrote: “There’s a good balance of romantic tension between Eddie and the daughter of the gang’s boss to keep you guessing. The casting is good, production values high and storylines engaging.”

The Gentlemen season 2 will be available to stream on Netflix. A release date is yet to be announced. Season 1 is streaming on Netflix now.
