Two sculptures of greyhounds will mark the site of the former track, which closed in the 1990s.
Since its closure, the area became a hotspot for anti-social behaviour, according to locals, and was the subject of several planning applications for housing – the most recent was approved in 2023.

Submitted by Clare Johnson of Livin Housing, the artwork will be rust-brown in appearance and will not impact any new vehicular or pedestrian routes on Moulders Park, Merrington Lane.
A Fast Track Report noted: ‘The sculpture is small-scale and constructed in a high-quality design and material.’
‘It will integrate visually with the modern development and enhance local character.’
Durham County Council approved the statue plans on December 4.
