Thousands of people have been left without water due to a burst water main in Dublin City.

Uisce Éireann crews are working to repair the burst pipe in the north inner city and restore water to customers affected.

The burst is impacting customers in Fitzgibbon Street, Frederick Street North, Dorset Street, Gardiner Row, Summerhill, Gardiner Place and surrounding areas in Dublin 1.

Uisce Éireann’s Keith Conmy has assured customers that every effort is being made to restore a full water supply as quickly as possible.

Mr Conmy highlighted that the problem is down to a “significant burst and will take some time for repairs to be completed”.

He continued: “In the meantime, our operations teams are working to redirect supplies to minimise the number of customers impacted. We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and we thank customers for their support while our works continue.”

Repair crews are on site and have isolated the section of pipe that has burst.

To ensure the safety of the crews carrying out the repairs to the burst and the safety of the public, traffic management will be in place and will be clearly signposted, the water supplier added.

Further updates will be provided in due course.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from the water body for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

Uisce Éireann is encouraging customers to engage with them through their website, social media platforms and through their customer care helpline, which is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278.
