Gardaí in County Clare have arrested a woman caught driving on the wrong side of the road while apparently under the influence of cocaine with her children in the car.

Gardaí were out on patrol in Ennis on Friday night, December 5, when they spotted a car driving around a corner on the wrong side of the road.

When the driver was stopped, gardaí found that she had her two children in the car with her and they checked their system which showed she was disqualified.

A subsequent drug wipe found she had cocaine in her system.

Gardaí arrested the woman and seized the car as they warned that they would be continuing to target intoxicated drivers on the road to prevent “an empty seat at the Christmas dinner table”.

They shared the incident details, saying: “It’s not ending up on the naughty list this person needs to be worried about, she’s ended up on the court list.

“Last Friday night while some families were heading to bed following the Toy Show, our Roads Policing unit stopped this car in Ennis, after it went around a corner on the wrong side of the road.

“The driver had two of her children in the car with her, a few checks on our mobility system showed she was disqualified and a positive drug wipe for cocaine, probably showed the reason why her driving caught our eye.

“The driver was arrested, and her car seized. Over the Christmas period, we will be continuing to target intoxicated drivers on the road, with a hope that it will prevent any more empty seats at the Christmas dinner table this year.”
