ICYMI, Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau have taken their romance to the next level by going Instagram official. As sweet as it is of Katy to bless her fans with a cute look into her relationship with Trudaddy, it’s quite ironic considering that she—according to an inside source—didn’t want a boyfriend to begin with.
A source told People that Katy originally was happy with staying single following her split from Orlando Bloom, and did not have dating or relationships on the brain when she and Justin first had one-on-one time together.
“The only reason this turned into something real is because Justin has been so persistent,” the source explained. “She wasn’t looking to date when they first hung out and she certainly wasn’t looking for a boyfriend.”

Furthermore, Katy is just as shocked by her connection with the former Canadian Prime Minister as we are. The source noted that their romance came as an “exciting surprise” to Katy, and all the extra effort he put into wanting to see her was simply the cherry on top.
“He’s shown her over and over again that he genuinely wants to see her,” the source added. “He’s flown all over the world to spend time with her while she toured. She likes spending time with him. She’s flattered that he’s made such a big effort and she’s excited to be dating him.”

Justin is just as excited to be dating Katy, too, it seems—he took his pop star girlfriend as his plus one to meet the former Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, on Dec. 4…and when Kishida called the “California Gurls” singer Justin’s “partner,” Justin didn’t correct him.
“Former Canadian Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau visited Japan with his partner and joined my wife and me for lunch,” Kishida tweeted a group photo of him and his wife with Katy and Justin.
Justin’s response? “Great to see you @kishida230. Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko,” he replied to the tweet.
Basically: All is perfect in Katy and Justin’s world. Katy “has a lot of fun with him,” a source told People on Nov. 19. “It’s exactly what she needs right now.”
