A LIMERICK teenager who won the BT Young Scientist of the Year contest is celebrating this week after picking up maximum points in his Leaving Certificate exams.
Coláiste Chiaráin Croom student Sean O’Sullivan discovered he had secured 625 points in the State exams, and is now looking forward to the next step in his education.
His points score puts him among the top achievers nationally, and opens the doors to his attending University of Limerick, where he will undertake the new immersive software enginering course.

It also brings the curtain down on a secondary school career in which he was named the winner at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition back in January 2024.
He has also represented Ireland in the European Union Contest for Young Scientists and at the Regeneron-sponsored International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Ohio, USA.
Sean’s father, Gerard O’Sulivan, who is the principal at the Croom secondary school praised the efforts of all his students.
He said the results reflect “months and years of dedicated study and preparation.”
“These excellent results are a testament to the hard work, resilience, and dedication of our students, supported as ever by our excellent teaching staff. “We are incredibly proud of each and every student who sat their Leaving Certificate this year and received their results,” he added.
Mr O’Sullivan also said: “These results reflect not just individual achievement, but the collective effort of our entire school community. We wish all our graduates the very best as they move forward to the next exciting chapter of their lives.”
