Peacemaker Season 2, which debuted on Max on August 21, 2025, has witnessed a significant rise in viewership from the first season. Peacemaker serves as a spin-off to the 2021 feature The Suicide Squad. The show premiered on January 13, 2022, and garnered a positive response from critics and the general audience alike for its inaugural chapter. However, it seems that the sophomore season has performed even better.
Peacemaker Season 2 records a 22% increase in viewership as compared to Season 1
According to Samba TV, the Peacemaker Season 2 premiere drew 22% more viewership than the Season 1 finale. “Season two of #Peacemaker blasted onto #HBOMax with 22% more US households tuning in over its first four days than the season one finale in 2022. Turns out the wait only made the hype stronger,” the company posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Given that Peacemaker’s second season came out shortly after 2025’s Superman, it’s safe to assume that the John Cena-led show may have profited from the massive success of the movie. James Gunn, the co-head of the DCU and director of Superman, is also the creator and showrunner of Peacemaker.
Gunn’s direct involvement in the project likely drew in audiences that had become interested in the overarching storyline of the DCU after watching Superman. Additionally, Cena’s brief appearance as Chris Smith / Peacemaker in Superman likely sparked an interest in the show in viewers who wouldn’t have watched it otherwise.
Peacemaker Season 2 currently has a 99% approval rating on the review aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes after 62 reviews. This is more than Peacemaker Season 1, which has a rating of 93% and even Superman, which has accumulated an 83% approval rating.
Besides Cena, the Peacemaker Season 2 cast includes Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase / Vigilante, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sol Rodríguez as Sasha Bordeaux, and Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith / White Dragon.
Peacemaker Season 2 streams on Max weekly on Thursdays.
