BBC Breakfast viewers took to social media on Sunday to question why the programme finished early. The programme, which finished at 10am on Saturday, ended at 8.45am on Sunday morning instead of its usual time.

Taking to X, one fan asked, “How come we are not switching over to BBC 2 #bbcbreakfast.”

“How come it’s finished early #bbcbreakfast,” another asked while a third added, “Got to repeat last night’s match of the day.”

Someone else commented, “Why did it finish so early today? No news?”

At 8:45 am, after speaking with two guests, Ben Thompson and Rachel Burden confirmed that the show would end and resume at 6am on Monday morning.

Ben said, “That is all from us on Breakfast this morning. Back tomorrow from 6am, enjoy your day.”

Rachel added, “See you soon.”

Although there was no explanation for why BBC Breakfast ended at an earlier time, it was promptly followed by Match of the Day.

Last Sunday, BBC Breakfast ended at 9am and was also followed by Match of the Day. Whereas on the Saturday, it concluded at 9.30am to make way for Matt Tebbutt’s Saturday Kitchen Countdown to Christmas.

Yesterday, Charlie Stayt and Emma Vardy wrapped up the show at 10am, and was soon followed by Saturday Kitchen.

During today’s instalment, Ben and Rachel spoke with several guests, while sports reporter Olly Foster paid tribute to two sporting legends.

When presenting the latest sports headlines, Olly began, “Now, for just a couple of hours, Manchester City were top yesterday. That’s the first time they’ve been there since the opening day of the season. They won two-one at Nottingham Forest in the lunchtime kick-off.

“Ahead of kick off, tributes were paid to the Forest club legend John Robertson, their two-time European Cup winner, who died on Christmas Day.”

He added, “So there was an emotional afternoon at Anfield as Liverpool and Wolves met for the first time since the death of Diogo Jota in the summer.

“Jota played for both clubs during his eight years in England. His sons were mascots for the game. They came out onto the pitch with the local captain.

“Jota was 28 when he was killed in a car crash in Spain in July, alongside his brother Andre Silva, and Liverpool went on to win the match.”
