A serving PSNI officer has appeared in court charged with the theft of thousands of rounds of ammunition from a police training centre.
Robert Charles Rodgers (63), whose address was given as PSNI headquarters in Belfast, is also charged with possession of a firearm under suspicious circumstances.
Appearing at Antrim Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Ballymena, he spoke only to confirm that he understood the charges against him.
He faces a total of eight charges, including theft, possession of ammunition without a certificate and possession of an explosive substance, gun powder, in October.
The officer, who has been suspended pending the outcome of criminal proceedings, is also charged with fraud.
It’s alleged that he made a security card to gain access to a PSNI armoury with the intention to make gain for himself or to cause loss to the PSNI.
The offences are alleged to have taken place at the PSNI firearms training centre at Steeple in Antrim.
A PSNI detective constable told the court he could connect the defendant to the charges.
Robert Rodgers was released on bail to appear in court again in February.
