Residents in north Dublin are being advised to prepare for temporary water supply disruptions and traffic delays as Uisce Éireann begins a series of major infrastructure works in Skerries and continues projects in Lusk.
On Shenick Road in Skerries, the utility is set to carry out essential upgrades to both the water and wastewater networks.
The scheme, which forms part of Uisce Éireann’s national Growth and Development Programme, will involve laying around 540 metres of new water mains and more than 200 metres of gravity sewer.
A spokesperson for Uisce Éireann said: “These works are being delivered to support future housing development and improve service resilience for existing customers in Skerries. By upgrading the infrastructure now, we can safeguard services for both current and future generations.”
The project is due to begin this week and is expected to run until early 2026, with full road reinstatement anticipated by mid-2026.
To minimise disruption, the works will be carried out in nine phases, with a combination of footpath and lane closures in place over the duration of the project.
Short-term water outages are also expected. However, Uisce Éireann has pledged to notify households and businesses well in advance.
“Customers may experience short-term water outages, but a minimum of 48 hours’ notice will be provided prior to any planned disruption,” the spokesperson said.
In Lusk, meanwhile, works are ongoing on Rathmore Road where a Stop/Go system has been managing traffic.
Uisce Éireann confirmed this phase will conclude by 5 September 2025.
“After this date, a contraflow system will be introduced for approximately one week. This is to facilitate new housing connections in the area,” the spokesperson said.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as the project progresses, and we will continue to provide updates as further stages get underway.”
