An investigation is under way after chewing tobacco worth an estimated €605,000 was seized by Revenue officers at Dublin Port.

The seizure was carried out during routine profiling on Monday.

Revenue has said that the tobacco, which weighed 1,100kg, originated in India and arrived into Dublin Port via The Netherlands.

Separately, a man has been arrested after drugs worth more than €200,000 were seized in Co Carlow.

During a search of a house in Hacketstown yesterday, cannabis with a street value of €136,000, cocaine worth €38,000, valium tablets valued at €2,000, along with vapes and vape liquid valued at €39,000 were seized.

Gardaí from the Carlow Drugs Unit also seized €21,750 in cash.

The man, who is in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and remains in garda custody.

The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

In a separate operation in Limerick, suspected cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €540,000 was seized near Newcastle West yesterday.

The drugs were discovered during the search of a residential property at Carraigkerry.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
